What’s Important to You?
In our weekly team call we talked about what is important to each of us and the resultant discussion was profound in many ways. So what follows is a discussion around what keeps you “ON MESSAGE” AND “WHAT GETS YOU OUT OF BED ON A COLD WINTER MORNING”?
Here are a few questions to prompt the discussions:
- What is it that you are in the process of creating and why?
- Who are you looking to add value to and why?
- What keeps you going when things get hard?
- What are the successes that you’ve had? Share them if appropriate.
- What does your journey look like and where do you see it taking you in the future?

What’s important for me is my family. Everything I do is checked by a simple question. Will this hurt or help my family?
My journey has been long and filled with variety but now I have found what I do best and that is helping people to develop to their maximum potential. One of my greatest frustrations is seeing young men and women who have given up or who can’t see the way forward.
I have to add value to everyone I meet. Be it taking a small present or lending a book or suggesting something to look at. I have to find ways to add value.
My gravestone will be engraved with these words “he helped people create what matters to them and he made a difference”.
Relationships are key in this age and we are all living in some sort of isolation, physical, emotional or spiritual. Isolation kills people’s dreams and to that end you could liken me to a lifeboat.
Like many people the most important thing to me is most definitely my family, especially my three children. Having become a single parent in the last couple of years bringing up three children on my own is an challenge but I enjoy every minute of it and wouldn’t have it any other way.
For the last 12 months I have been working towards creating our future by changing career paths while the aim of getting off benefits and being able to set a good example to my children – if you want something you have to put in the effort and committment to change your life and get to where you want to go. The first step for me was to study a science access course at college and work it around my family life, that was the easy part. The tougher challenge was to get a place on the university course I wanted to study facing stiff competition and on top of that I needed to get Plymouth as my training placement or there was simply no way I could continue the course. I took a step at a time and everything fell into place and I start my 2 year course at Plymouth Uni in September with my work placement being at Derriford
Everything I do, and why I get up in the morning, is to provide the best I can for my children. Helping my Dyspraxic son make the best of his special skills and talents is one goal, helping my 1st Dan black belt daughter make the best of her talents in taekwondo and one day get into the GB team is another. Making them happy makes me happy. Whilst I am not religious in the normal sense, I do believe in the Universe balancing things out, some call it Karma I guess, and I think it is important to treat people in the way that you would like them to treat you. Treat them with help and kindness without expectation and you will receive it back in spades, treat people badly and you will get whats coming to you.
I have to start with relationships and number one is family followed by friends. You never stop creating the relationship and with my wife of 34 years it is constantly changing and evolving, likewise with my two adult children as they grow, mature and change so does our relationship, they learn from me and I from them which adds to the value of my relationshipand life.
While having a general discussion, my son asked what is life all about, what’s the purpose why are we here on planet earth. Now that’s a very deep mind boggling question in its self and perhaps one for another day!
How do I view my purpose, well as a christian I believe we are here to worship God and to serve other human beings. Within that comes a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and that relationship is built in the same way as with my wife, family and friends. A desire to love, understand support share and grow with along lifes dusty winding road.
So my purpose to serve others has been achieved through charity work when required, giving my time freely to assist in supportive projects, but also by creating an ecommerce website business for complementary health, providing a wealth of information, health food supplements and equipment to support a well balanced healthy lifestyle, which could include diet, exercise, food supplementation together with mentoring to achieve the goal of the client.
I have a constant desire to be of a worthwhile purpose and need to achieve positive goals but not always sure this has been achieved which keeps me motivated.
I am proud to be part of “healthy mentors” a team of like minded colleagues, offering supportive ethical health information, working with and supporting an extensive client base world wide through their personel health issues.
As for my future and the journey, I just want to “keep on trucking” as the saying goes, creating, learning, achieving, supporting, understanding, sharing, BEING PURPOSEFUL.
